Environment Canada issued a wind warning Tuesday afternoon
The Hamilton-Niagara area is experiencing windy conditions Tuesday afternoon, with gusts up to 100 km/h, says Environment Canada.
A wind warning is in effect for Hamilton and all of Norfolk County and the Niagara region, including St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.
“Strong winds with severe and damaging gusts have developed behind the departing thundershowers this afternoon,” Environment Canada says.
It issued the warning shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday. The wind is forecast to ease through the evening.
The high winds could damage buildings such as roof shingles and windows, the agency warns.
Utility outages may also occur if trees or branches fall on power lines.
Windy conditions are also expected in Brantford, which is under a less-severe weather statement, says Environment Canada. Winds gusts could reach 70 to 85 km/h.
