Hamilton, Halton, Niagara and area…

Police are investigating an incident that took place at a mosque in downtown Hamilton over the weekend.

Authorities say at around 12:40 p.m. Saturday, they received a call about a man who had entered the mosque and was refusing to leave.

The man was then removed without incident.

Shortly before midnight Saturday, the Hamilton Downtown Mosque released a statement of its own, alleging the man made “racist and threatening statements” that “terrorized the teachers and students.”

“The individual was escorted outside to the parking lot. One of our staff members asked him to leave the property. He had a copy of the Clear Quran which he opened and ripped in half.”

The department says it’s working closely with the mosque to better understand what happened and that the investigation is ongoing.

Currently, there is no indication that the man has been charged with any crime.
