The festival isn’t just about the music. There are multiple food, craft and retail vendors to choose from.

Paul and Magda have been serving up funnel cakes at the Sound of Music Festival for over three decades.

“It’s the beginning of the season. Summer is coming. Families, tradition. You know the first customers always can’t wait for us to be open to get our special treat.”

The couple from Stoney Creek, along with their two sons and two daughters own and operate four mobile food trucks as well as a brick and mortar restaurant on King Street in Hamilton.

Festival Cafe is one of dozens of food trucks and vendors operating inside the festival grounds with options from sweet to savoury and everything in between.

But it’s not just the food at Spencer Smith Park that’s front and centre, as restaurants across downtown Burlington are expected to get a boost this weekend.

Restaurants on Brant Street and beyond say the Sound of Music Festival is crucial for their bottom line and a way to showcase their menu to tourists from near and far.

Stewart Schmidt, head chef at 400 Brant, which opened at the former home of the Queen’s Head in April says it’s a chance to show off some new additions to the menu.

“With the sound of music coming in this week, we launched our summer shareables menu, more for sitting on the patio, having a little snack, fish tacos with pineapple salsa, some kettle chips with dip, something you can snack on with a couple people on the patio. It’s a perfect time for it,” Schmidt said.

Admission to the Sound of Music Festival is free, but if you are looking for VIP or front of stage access that is available for purchase on their website.
