Stolen vehicle located alongside another stolen vehicle in Niagara Falls

A car thief who parked a stolen vehicle at a Niagara Walmart may have inadvertently helped police solve another auto-theft investigation.

On Monday, a man reported that his car had been stolen in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Police say that they learned the car had been taken sometime between 5 and 6:45 p.m. while it was parked in a lot near Taylor Road and Glendale Avenue and began searching for a black Lexus.

That same evening, the officers were able to track it down to another parking lot at a Walmart in the City of Niagara Falls.

However, while examining the vehicle the officers noticed that the car parked alongside it had also recently been stolen.

Whether or not that was done deliberately remains unclear, but police did say they were able to make an arrest.

Peter Verba, 32, of Niagara Falls, is now facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle and failure to comply with a probation order, a testament to the successful police investigation.

Verba was scheduled to undergo a bail hearing on Tuesday.

Police ask that anyone with additional information on this incident contact them by phone at 905-688-4111, option three, extension 1002200.
