Stolen ice cream cone piggy bank ‘on its way home’ to Waterdown Dairy Queen

Less than 24 hours after CHCH News ran the scoop on a story about a Dairy Queen in Hamilton that had its ice cream cone piggy bank stolen, the property was returned.

Earlier this month, a woman was caught on camera making off with a hollowed-out plastic cone that the DQ in Waterdown uses to raise money for its Blizzard Day fundraiser.

The footage captured the thief’s face and the license plate of the vehicle they made off in, leaving little ambiguity around the whodunit of the situation.

Rather than file a police report, the owner of the branch opted to hand the footage over to its local news leader to air for all to see and give the swindler a final chance to make good on their bad decision.

Early Wednesday, the person who originally donated the cone reached out to CHCH News to share that it had been found.

“We’re very happy to say that posting on since airing on the news last night, the little pink cone is on its way home,” they said in an email.
